Welcome to A&R Red Angus!

We are located in central MN near a little town called Holdingford. We are family owned and operated. The team consist of Dad & Mom (Russ & Paula Klaphake), Myself (Austin Klaphake), my fiancé (Leczi Schmidt) and “and our kids, Emelea, Isaac, Waylon, and Wrenley.

We got started in the Red Angus breed in 2016. We purchased our first purebred Red Angus cows and bulls from Nordlund Stock Farm and Bieber Red Angus Ranch. Over the years we also bought cows from Dahlke Red Anugs, Turtle River Cattle co. Rich Red Angus and Grassy Meadow Ranch. We currently run about 60 momma cows as we all work off the farm. We stride for quality over quantity. In order to do that we AI every cow to the top of the breed bulls. We also started an ET program where we have been flushing two cows to get embryos for our commercial herd. This allows us to grow our registered herd quicker with top genetics from the Red Angus breed.

More about our program, we work very hard to make great maternal cattle that perform well. We feel it starts with a great momma cow to produce a good herd bull or a good replacement heifer that will improve any program. We want structurally sound cattle, with functional udders that perform well and will make money for our customers. We feel that it all starts with the ideal cow that has great feet, leg structure, udder, fertility, great disposition without sacrificing performance. We focus hard on these trails because we feel if cattle have poor feet and leg structure they won’t perform to the best of their ability. A perfect functional udder to us is a must! We work off the farm like many other beef farmers and want the calves to be able to get up and suck without problems. Fertility is also important to us so we can keep our calving window tight. Great disposition is also another important trait as our kids are always helping us on the farm. Bulls and heifers are developed slow off a TMR mix for longevity and be structural sound. We take accurate measurements of birth weight, weaning weight, yearling weight, and have all animals DNA tested with enhanced EPD’s so we can offer honest and accurate EPD’s.
